biography
The Leipzig born tenor Robert Pohlers was a member of the Thomanerchor until he graduated from high school. He studied singing with Roland Schubert at the Leipzig University of Music and Theatre "Felix Mendelssohn Bartholdy" and successfully completed his studies in 2020.
He has been a member of amarcord since 2013. Together with his ensemble colleagues, Pohlers has won internationally renowned awards (CARA, OPUS Klassik, etc.).
In the course of his concert activity, which has taken him to over 30 countries, the tenor has worked with well-known ensembles and conductors, including the Gewandhaus Orchestra in Leipzig, the Munich Chamber Orchestra, AKAMUS Berlin, the Friuli Giulia Venezia Orchestra, the Würth Philharmonic, the Swedish Chamber Orchestra, Georg Christoph Biller, Wolfgang Katschner, Marco Berrini, Václav Luks, Hermann Max, HK Gruber, Steven Sloan, at important venues such as Carnegie Hall New York, the Gewandhaus in Leipzig, the Konzerthaus Berlin, the Royal Academy of Music London, the Vienna Musikverein, the Prinzregententheater Munich and others.
Pohlers has developed a particular passion for singing Lieder. He has received important inspiration for this from big names in the scene such as Peter Schreier, Olaf Bär, Eric Schneider and Alexander Schmalcz.
His first opera engagements took him to theaters in Leipzig, Wittenberg and Schaffhausen, with roles such as Ferrando (Cosí fan tutte), Don Ottavio (Don Giovanni), Bastien (Bastien & Bastienne) and others.
The Leipzig native is particularly in demand for his interpretations of Bach’s works.
Various CD recordings, radio productions, TV and DVD productions document his musical activities both in ensembles and as a soloist.
In 2021 his first solo CD with songs by Felix Mendelssohn Bartholdy was released.
Since 2023, Pohlers has been artistic director and conductor of the Leipzig chamber choir “Ensemble TonArt”.
In addition, Pohlers has been a lecturer for ensemble singing with amarcord at the Felix Mendelssohn Bartoldy University of Music and Theatre since 2023.
In addition to his work as a singer and conductor, Pohlers is also active as a composer. He has written pieces and arrangements for artists such as Daniel Hope, the Thomanerchor zu Leipzig, amarcord, Voicemade and others, for which he has received many positive reviews in the media.
